I was planning to start this year on foot. While Violet has been kind to me, I'm sure Johto has a lot more for me to see.

However, I've been stalled by the appearance of a Xatu. I know she answers to Misty, but I never got the name of her owner when I met her. If anyone has any information about where to find this girl so I can return her bird, I'd be very grateful.

[Or, you know, in other words, "I already have one huge staring bird too many". He's walking the streets of Violet rather aimlessly (accompanied by a very elated Electrike), so if you want action feel free to run into him, as per usual.]

Oh, and I almost forgot - happy new year. Let's make it one.

I'm actually going to be heading out to Goldenrod really soon. I just got off of my last day at the restaurant here.

Are you alright? I don't mean to be rude, but you look a little off.

_{[His expression closes off a little, takes on a business-like air.]}

Thanks, I'll be fine. I found this bird pokémon that doesn't belong to me, but I fear her owner has disappeared.

_{[Yes, that's totally an explanation to his mood.]}

It starts us off on the right foot, being active.

People seem to disappear quite often, occasionally reappearing with or without memories. It's really worrisome.

They say you'll finish the year the way you started it.

_{[He looks back at France evenly, with just a bit of tension visible around the mouth.]}

I know. I'd be lying if I said it didn't bother me. There's no reason to this world.

I've talked to Cecil about this a few times, but neither of us have been able to come to a conclusion about what's happening. I'm inclined to believe we're in the process of the Final Judgement, but people keep coming back... We also guessed we could be trapped in some sort of massive experiment.

_{[He looks at France with a sense of renewed interest.]}

I've been thinking of this as a large-scale experiment as well. It doesn't exactly lift your spirits, but it does seem plausible, considering everything that's been happening and the seemingly random manner pertaining to these events.

Those perverts are just watching us from somewhere, recording our reactions and movements, just waiting for us to let our guards down so they can further torture our soul at their twisted mercy.

"Further"? Do you feel tortured?

_{[Regarding him in a near-careful way.]}

I don't know. I don't know if I'm dead or if I'm just dreaming or if I've had another mental break with reality and I've doomed my people to suffering.

I hate not knowing things.

_{[He sighs.]}

Me too. It's my job to come to a conclusion, and here, I'm unable to do so.

_{[He doesn't like that at all, actually.]}

I can't decide whether to like this place or be intimidated by it.

This place doesn't follow any sort of logic that I can tell. It has elements of reason, but...

I think the best thing to do is stay aware and on your toes.

Yet, this world has a sense of purity I thought was lost. The troubles in it always seem to stem from us outsiders or whoever is pulling the strings. I don't think Johto in itself is to blame for the things happening here.

_{[He fell in love with this place rather quickly, but he can't come to terms with someone else messing with it.]}

I find it sad how to 'stay aware' has become a way to live life, whether by choice or necessity.

Purity?

That... might explain why there are children here. I don't believe God would punish children by condemning them to Hell.

Staying aware is always a part of life, living or dead, it seems. At least we can have friends at our side to help us watch out.

I find it hard to believe in a menacing God altogether.

_{[Actually, he doesn't believe in God at all, not anymore.]

[But that small smile is answered rather quickly, earnestly, as Coop visibly lightens up.]}

You're right.

Sometimes, the only thing I think I actually know about God is that he has a vicious sense of humor.

What sort of pokemon is this? I haven't seen it before.

Sometimes the things we know don't seem to be enough.

_{[He'd forgotten about the Electrike, honestly, but now looks down at her with a smile. She'd been trotting about the edges of the street, but comes over at being noticed, making a sound not dissimilar to a bark.]}

She's an Electrike, apparently - she hatched from my Christmas egg a few days ago. I call her Tricia.

Is she a new species? I've noticed a lot of people discovering new kinds of pokemon from the eggs they got at Christmas. She's so cute!

She's not just cute - she's got quite an attitude as well.

_{[And right on cue Tricia gives another bark as if to warn France that he's too close.]}

But I believe so, yes. I haven't seen anyone else with an Electrike so far and there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about them. I'm curious, what did your egg hatch?

_{[The Electrike meanwhile apparently decided that France is a decent guy and is sniffing at his feet.]}

The attitude makes her even cuter.

This is Tricia. She's a little high-strung, but she's really quite a doll.

I guess so. I never had pets before - in all honesty, I'm not entirely confident in how to raise her.

_{[NOT TO MENTION THE BIRDS AAGH. The Wooper is easy though, you just encourage her and pet her a lot, the shy thing.]

[He watches the Eevee with a smile, finding her rather cute indeed, while Tricia yaps, stares at the Eevee sternly for a few seconds, before ohmygod playbow. And fake-biting her ear. Play? Yes?]}

Just make sure to show her love, feed and water her regularly, and take her out to play. Socialization is important, too, to make sure she's well-rounded.

Okay. _{[Which is forever pronounced "okei" in Coop's book, he says this softly with an appreciative smile France's way.]} Thank you.

_{[Tricia is confused. She yaps again and snaps lightly at the Eevee's haunches in an effort to get her up. Don't do that, that's boring, up, come on! Play! Play is better! Omg let's roughhouse-]}

_{[Oh haha well that was off-guard-catching, but strangely touching. Coop doesn't typically hug a lot, but of course he'll hug back. In the end, hugs are always nice.]

[Tricia is so confused and tilts her head sideways. Don't you know how to play? Play! Not hurt, play! Hallooo?]}

What's the matter? Are you cold? Or are you hungry? It's almost dinnertime...

I guess I should head back in. This one is getting cranky.

_{[Cooper nods in understanding, while Tricia runs around France in an effort to get the Eevee back down to play. Coop stops her with a call though and she walks back to him looking very disappointed.]}

I guess I'll see you around soon, if this pattern holds up.
