I've been thinking about the significance of our first pokémon. I find it hard to believe the species given to us are random.

[A brief pause. He's been bothered by this ever since his arrival, actually.]

The initial reaction on meeting your first is important, whether it was fear, familiarity, anger, amusement, or the more unlikely indifference. Then there is of course the more pressing question: why were we given these particular ones?

Yeah, a bit. Can't use it here, though.

No, I guess not. Does your partner share your former abilities?

Not exactly. I mean, the only spell-like ability she knows so far creates leaves, not lightning or anything I know, and she only learned that one fairly recently. But then, it takes a while for most people to learn even one spell back home, so...

It looks like you're one of the few so far to not have a more immediate relation to your starter. Unless, of course, there's something else to take into account.
