I've been thinking about the significance of our first pokémon. I find it hard to believe the species given to us are random.

[A brief pause. He's been bothered by this ever since his arrival, actually.]

The initial reaction on meeting your first is important, whether it was fear, familiarity, anger, amusement, or the more unlikely indifference. Then there is of course the more pressing question: why were we given these particular ones?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

[He's investigating again. Action for anyone in Azalea - he'll most likely be hanging around the pokémon center, working there and all.]

[ Even without any accusations the apparent number of connections found worries Kristoph. Had he known about this whole connection business he would have abandoned that wretched snake immediately. But now that presenting another Pokemon as his starter is out of the question he has to come up with another explanation for his Ekans. The last thing he wants is people suspecting him over a Pokemon he had no choice with. ]

...well, snakes are often seen as guardians as well as a symbol of wisdom. But saying something like that would just make it feel like I'm singing my own praises, wouldn't it?

In a sense defence attorney can be seen as guardian of the law and justice in the courtroom. [ Even though sometimes even Lady Justice herself is depicted crushing a snake under her foot, oops. ]

Sometimes it feels not worth of mention as I haven't been able to do any work as of late because of the recent circumstances.

It's a fascinating subject. However rather than studying it I've simply picked up a bit here and there.

So you face the same problem yourself, Mr. Cooper?

It's quite hard not to notice something like that when you have been involved with it yourself.

FBI... [ Kristoph is quiet for a moment as he thinks. ] I see. From the looks of it I'd say that nothing of that sort exists in Johto.

I guess I can agree with that in a sense, yet as a lawyer I can't help but worry about the state of the legal system around here.

The system might have been feasible once, but with the growing amount of foreigners the changing situation should be dealt with accordingly.
