I've been thinking about the significance of our first pokémon. I find it hard to believe the species given to us are random.

[A brief pause. He's been bothered by this ever since his arrival, actually.]

The initial reaction on meeting your first is important, whether it was fear, familiarity, anger, amusement, or the more unlikely indifference. Then there is of course the more pressing question: why were we given these particular ones?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I had kind of just gotten out of college then--y-you know, stupid kids do really st-stupid things and maybe I was looking for evidence of aliens but I d-didn't do anything aside from hack in and look around, r-really!

You really don't need to worry about that. I kind of got kicked out. I work for a nonprofit NGO now.

W-well, I grew up on science fiction and always sort of wondered if they existed...when I got into the FBI I was sure I'd be able to find out if all the rumors and stories were true. Roswell, Area 51...y'know, things like that.

I see. Did you find any answers?

I got into the central database and monitored it for a while, but there was nothing. Which probably means it's even more highly classified than I thought.
