019 - audio
I imagine quite a number of you are taking the gym challenge, but I'm curious as to what reason. Boredom? Some kind of obligation? That it just might lead to a way home?
I'm not sure. Either way I recently earned my second badge and expect to head back to Goldenrod in the near future. [A small pause here and his voice takes on a wistful little note.] Am quite excited to return to Ilex Forest. I believe it will be a beautiful sight and an invigorating hike.
[Click! Both badges are obviously mod-approved. And action for anyone in Azalea - if you find him, he's hanging from a tree by his knees, kid-style, browsing his pokégear while doing so and ... looking quite comfortable. Any gear-replies will be done in this fashion, too. Have fun with that!]
[action]
Yes, I got that badge yesterday. I've been meaning to head to Goldenrod tomorrow or the day after.

[He folds his arms.]

[...4th wall memories, hello! He's frowning at this himself, cause wait, wait. Hm.]
[action] 1/2
[action] 2/2
[Have they discussed this before? HE COULDN'T REMEMBER. He was...kinda dizzy.]
[action]
Must be one of the fragmented memories left from the latest lost three days. I think I do recall you ... a skeleton, right?
[action]
[Jack's own memories of the glitch were fuzzy at best. He remembered getting yelled at a lot though. Maybe that was why. People tended to get upset when meeting people without faces.]
You're not bothered by that?
[action]
[But ... yeah, anyway. He knows a skeleton. He sort of shrugs at the question.]
Not really. We've got all kinds here, after all. [Actually, that's sort of excitingly interesting. He tilts his head slightly, a bit of a smile.] Were you always a skeleton?
[action]
As far as I can remember...but given that I only recently remembered how I died in the first place...probably not. I'm sure I was alive at some point. Possibly for a while. I mean, look.
[He gestures to the grey streak in his hair. Jack was by no means an old man, but he'd been around a while. And stress probably had something to do with it.]
[action]
So how did you die? Unless you'd rather not talk about it.
[action]
I don't mind...I was working that out myself recently. I had a dream that turned out to be a memory! I think i drowned. I think that has something to do with my not being able to swim.
[action]
[anyway, Coop grabs the branch a little more and keeps looking like an excited kid. Despite this, there's an underlying seriousness in wanting to know about it.]
You must've been a skeleton for quite some time then, huh?
[action]
A long, long time. Probably longer than you've been alive...but I think holidays are aged a little differently.
And you know, though I do remember dying...I don't remember rotting? I must have been dead-dead before I started being just...dead.
[BECAUSE THAT MAKES SENSE.]
[action]
Holidays?
[action]
I come from a place that makes Halloween happen every year. I was sort of...in charge. So I've been around for...as long a Halloween has, probably. I never really thought about it before.
[Maybe that was why he got bored enough to go out walking without looking back.]
[action]
[action]
[Jack smiles wearily.] Oh, it's a wonderful place. I miss it every day. Grey skies, tranquil acid swamps, the sound of ravens every evening, the wind through the gallows trees...
[action]
[And that's quite a description! Coop smiles politely more than anything - not really his idea of a 'wonderful place' - but still.]
I guess that's fitting for a place with a Halloween theme. What do you do the other days of the year?
[action]
[Jack sobers up a little. 8[ He suddenly felt lucky that the round little man didn't clobber him with a candy cane. He deserved it.]
Well, we prepare. A lot goes into Halloween. We have to look at what we did last year, what we did right, what we could do better, what the outer world believes in, what they don't. No use teaching a bunch of newly-dead how to rattle chains if nobody's listening for them...I'm gonna have to take a break.
[Jack struggles for a moment and ends up right-side up. He rubs his head and steadies himself on the branch.]
But there are also different kinds of Halloween all over the world like...the Day of the Dead! Between you and me...that's my favorite. Even though it's not very scary, not really, the spirit's still there!
[action]
The Mexican holiday where the dead come back for a few days to visit their loved ones ... [Just sort of going it over again in his head, refreshing his memory of what it means.] I'll agree, that does have spirit. So you do events for that as well?
[action]
[Jack grins fondly...and a little sadly remembering his home. He hoped this year's Halloween, should he say here long enough to see it, goes better than last year's.]
