I've been thinking about the significance of our first pokémon. I find it hard to believe the species given to us are random.

[A brief pause. He's been bothered by this ever since his arrival, actually.]

The initial reaction on meeting your first is important, whether it was fear, familiarity, anger, amusement, or the more unlikely indifference. Then there is of course the more pressing question: why were we given these particular ones?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

[He's investigating again. Action for anyone in Azalea - he'll most likely be hanging around the pokémon center, working there and all.]

I would say ours and that of our pokemon's. Then again, perhaps it's not by similarities, but how they balance each other out, aru.

'Cause I've seen people and pokemon with completely different personalities that still get along rather well.

Well, when you put it that way, I'm not sure, aru. For example, in general, the species Gyarados is supposed to be very aggressive after it evolves from a Magikarp, but Lien-Hua is not like that at all, aru.

If we're being given certain pokemon with certain personalities, then perhaps there is someone, or some group, responsible for bringing us here. However, I don't know if they would use magic or a machine to accomplish such a task, aru.

There's no way our arrival here was by coincidence, aru. I can't really think of anything else that could have brought us here. Unless, this was the will of the gods, but I highly doubt that.

Not really, aru. I have respect for the gods, but I'm not religious. I am, however, superstitious, aru. Why?

[Extremely superstitious, but not at all religious.]

[Yao laughs a little and smiles.] Oh, I'm not the only one, believe me, aru.

France believes that this is Hell and that this is his God's way of punishing him. I keep telling him that this isn't Hell, but of course he doesn't believe me, aru.

[More laughter.]

Haha, I should have known, aru. But yes, I also admire that characteristic of him. Then again, he's been the most religious Nation since his late childhood, aru.

As for me, I had too many concerns about governing and fighting and the like even as a child, but I can remember fearing the gods whenever I walked into a temple or a shrine.
