I've been thinking about the significance of our first pokémon. I find it hard to believe the species given to us are random.

[A brief pause. He's been bothered by this ever since his arrival, actually.]

The initial reaction on meeting your first is important, whether it was fear, familiarity, anger, amusement, or the more unlikely indifference. Then there is of course the more pressing question: why were we given these particular ones?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

[He's investigating again. Action for anyone in Azalea - he'll most likely be hanging around the pokémon center, working there and all.]

Fuuko was so happy with her first pokemon! Fuuko got starfish, the best animal ever!

Perhaps we are matched by our personalities, aru?

...I'm not sure as to he significance of it myself. However, the Pokemon I received reminds me heavily of a very good friend back home. And every day he continues to do so.

I was not in a state to react much to Rosie, but the choice of a Cleffa for my first Pokémon does make some sense.

Well, as a detective, I pride myself on my intelligence. I was given a psychic type--the, ah, most mental of the many types out there. He is also a flying type, and wings have always been an important symbolism for me.

Hell if I have any clue. I mean, it seems like she's got some magical talent, I guess, if you want to consider it that, but...

I started with a Pichu. I don't really know why though.

I was wondering the same thing! I got this guy.

My Pokemon, Mimi, is similar to an, um, ally of mine, 'k? It can't have been, um, random.

I started off with Blazing Bolt!

[And cue Dash proudly turning the 'gear to show her very... irked-looking Ponyta. COLD WEATHER IS COLD AND FIREPONY DISLIKES IT.] She's like a dragon pony! And... I guess there aren't many Pokemon that're like ponies in Johto. I'm thinking they just gave her to me 'cause I'm a pony. [TALK ABOUT RACIST.]

I have to agree with you, Mr. Cooper. It seems very unlikely that they were simply chosen for us by random. I've noticed the similarities that you speak of with the Pokemon my companions began with, and possibly even my own.

Mine appears to be based on mutual looks.

My first teammate was an Eevee. Naminé's was too, actually, but the second time around she got something else.

Ah, quite an interesting question.

I started with a cow. Probably 'cause Friesian cattle originated at my place. That, and Gouda cheese.

Right. My first pokemon was a magikarp. My thoughts were more along the line of "Why would anyone put a fish in a ball?" Then I thought it was a stupid name because there's nothing magical about it.

Actually there is I guess... but at the time I didn't know it. Maybe I got this one to start with because it involves into a sea monster like what we have in my world? A miniature more docile version of them anyway.

The theory you pose is certainly interesting, Mr. Cooper, even though I'm afraid no such connection exists between me and the species I was given.

Mine... I named after my sister. She reminds me of her-- that may be why I have her.
